Managing Listings
Landlords can create and manage rental listings from their dashboard.
Creating a Listing

- Title
- Description
- Property type
- Price per month
- Bedrooms and bathrooms
- Address and postal code
Optional fields include amenities, square footage, contact info, pet/parking/laundry flags, and availability date.
New listings start in Draft status and are not visible to tenants until activated.

After creating a listing, edit it to upload photos:
- Click or drag images onto the upload zone
- Supports JPEG, PNG, WebP, and GIF (max 5MB each)
- First image is automatically set as the primary (shown on listing cards)
- Hover over images to set a different primary or delete
Listing Status
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| Draft | Not visible to tenants. Work in progress. |
| Active | Published and visible in search results. |
| Rented | Marked as rented. Hidden from search. |
| Archived | Removed from search. Kept for records. |
Change status from the dashboard listing row's dropdown menu.
Editing and Deleting
- Edit any of your listings from the dashboard using the pencil icon
- Delete removes the listing and all associated images permanently
Notes
Landlords can add private notes to their listings — useful for tracking tenant communications, maintenance reminders, or lease details.
On the listing edit page, scroll down to the Notes section:
- Add a note by typing in the text field and clicking the + button
- Edit existing notes inline with the pencil icon
- Delete notes with the trash icon (confirmation required)
Notes are private and only visible to the listing owner.
Claiming Scraped Listings
Many listings on MTL Rent are automatically imported from other platforms (like Kijiji). If you're the actual landlord of one of these listings, you can claim it to take ownership:
- Browse to the listing detail page
- If you're logged in as a landlord and the listing is from a scraper, you'll see a "Is this your property?" card
- Click "Claim This Listing" and provide a justification explaining your connection to the property
- Our admin team will review and approve/reject the claim
- Once approved, the listing transfers to your account and you can edit it
Track your claims in Dashboard → Claims.
Tenant Inquiries
When a listing doesn't have public contact info (email or phone), tenants can send inquiries directly through the listing page. As a landlord, you'll see received inquiries in your dashboard.
Inquiries are also visible to the admin team, who can help connect tenants with landlords.
